Surgery of the nose is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures done today. You may be an excellent candidate if you wish to improve your looks and are not expecting perfection. If you are in good health and have a realistic expectation of what can be achieved, you will have a good result.
A complete medical history is important. It is important to let the physician know if you have had any previous nose surgery or an injury in this area. If you have allergies or breathing difficulties, it is important to note this on your medical history form.
The surgery can reduce or increase the overall size of your nose, change the shape, narrow or widen nostrils, and improve the angle between the nose and upper lip. The surgeon can work from the inside of the nose to modify and reshape both bone and cartilage. A bump can be removed and the sides of the nose narrowed. An oversized nose can be made more balanced and symmetrical.
A splint is placed on the nose to maintain and protect the new shape. A pack may be inserted to support the inside. Cold compresses on your eyes can reduce swelling and bruising. Keeping your head elevated will also help. The packing is removed in several days and the splint usually within a week. Any bruising starts to fade in several days. Most people return to work within a week or ten days.
